Create A Perfect Bedtime Routine

Sleep is when your body recovers from a busy day, and your skin cells undergo repair and turn over slightly faster to help your complexion appear bright and healthy-looking when you wake up.

“Well-rested” skin also has a chance to really soak up the benefits of your daily skincare routine. So here are some tips to get a perfect sleep every night and wake up more beautiful than when you closed your eyes! We’re giving you a peek into our bedtime routine.

Nightly Routine

As a mom, I’m a stickler to keeping a nighttime routine and doing all I can to set my girl up for a good night’s sleep. We keep it simple and consistent. We start with a warm bath. While she is soaking, I turn on her salt lamp and night light to start creating a peaceful room.

When she is ready to get out of her bath, we move into jammies, teeth brushing, and slowing things down by reading or sharing highlights of our day.

She has a satin pillowcase which is soft and easy on her hair. She also uses a sleep mask. She has done this for years. We play soft hymns EVERY SINGLE NIGHT and take turns saying prayers.

This routine is simple and does the trick. My little nugget is usually asleep within five to ten minutes.

During her bath, I wash my face and jump into my nightly routine too.

Set Yourself Up For Success

We treat our rooms like mini sanctuaries which means they are calm and smell good. We start our diffusers about an hour before bedtime. This one simple step makes our entire upstairs smell yummy. Lavender and Cedarwood are what we use the most. They both help with sleep and have a calming effect.

If you don’t diffuse, but like to spritz your pillow, here is our favorite SLEEP spray recipe:

  • 4-ounce glass spray bottle

  • 1-2 Tablespoons Witch Hazel

  • 5 Drops Lavender Essential Oil

  • 5 Drops Vetiver Essential Oil

  • 5 Drops Frankincense Essential Oil

  • 5 Drops Cedarwood Essential Oil

Add all ingredients into the bottle, then fill with distilled water and shake. You are ready to spray pillows, sheets, the room, etc.!

We also inhale our favorite SLEEP balm for 10-15 seconds and rub it on the bottom of our feet. Make sure you do this right before bed because it works immediately!

The company says you won’t even believe how well this works. Formulated using one of the rarest forms of chamomile found on earth, sleep balm is the essence we imagine would linger in the air if the angels in heaven came down to earth to tuck you in themselves.

Unwind and let go of the day completely, as your senses are wrapped in a masterful blend of earth’s most precious essential oils, handcrafted to soothe your senses, promote sleep, and help you peacefully drift off to dreamland.  Get $10 off your first purchase here or click the picture below.

Bedtime Routine Reminders

Don’t forget to check the room temperatures.

Your bedroom should feel cool and comfy and have a temperature of 67 Fahrenheit. This is the optimal temperature to help sleep.

Keep your sheets fresh by changing them weekly.  Who can resist that clean sheet feeling? Keep them smelling fresh by using the SLEEP spray on both your pillow and your sheets.

Remove Makeup Nightly:

Did you know that leaving makeup on ages your skin EIGHT days? OMG, no thank you.

Find a gentle makeup remover and use it like it’s your J.O.B.

Make sure your face is completely clear of makeup, sunscreen, and environmental pollutants before you hit the sack and before you start your regimen. My latest “go-to” is cleansing oils. They are AMAZING. If you’re looking to try one, I recommend Kari Gran.

I know it may be tempting to be lazy after a long day, or when you are just SO tired you just can’t seem to swing by the bathroom before bed. But just do it. 15 years from now, you’ll be thankful you did.

Oh, and don’t forget to – brush your teeth! I recently started using oils on my gums. Will keep you posted on the results of that one in a bit! I’m not sure if I’m a fan or not. I’ve recently ditched my mainstream toothpaste for this awesome cleaner version, Davids.

Go easy on the eyes:

Always remove eyeliner and mascara before bed. But careful not to scrub or tug at the delicate eye area, which can cause sagging or wrinkles. Try this simple DIY recipe that gently and completely erases even the most stubborn eye makeup — including waterproof mascara. (combine ingredients in small glass jar)

  • 1/2 C coconut oil

  • 10 drops lavender essential oil

Find a Routine:

Find a regimen and stick to it. CONSISTENCY is KEY when it comes to results. If you’re anything like me, this is HARD but trust me when I say, it is a must. Find a routine that works for you and do it daily. Resist the urge to mix and match because most product lines are designed to work together.

After years of mixing and matching, searching for results, I found it and I am sharing it with you! Click here to see my skincare routine.

Nighttime is the prime time for products:

Skin “rests” during sleep, giving skincare a chance to do its best work. Make your 8 hours (ideally) count more with the products you choose. I recently ditched the toxins and chemicals and moved into a wildcrafted, small-batch, made in the USA line. If you need help switching and ditching, I share simple tips about things we are doing around our home. Join here (insert email list opt-in)

Eye Cream NOW:

It is NEVER too early to start using a high-quality eye cream. This will help hydrate, prevent and correct wrinkles, help combat dark circles, and much much much more! BONUS tip! Apply with your ring finger to minimize pulling the delicate skin around the eyes.
