Packing Tips For A Network Marketing Annual Convention

PACKING TIPS FOR NETWORK MARKETERS_JT BLOG HEADER.png

Most companies in the network marketing space have some sort of annual meeting … it’s a time to get together with like-minded business owners to network, learn and play.  If you come out of the corporate world packing for something like this is pretty standard BUT if you don’t you might need a little help.

Whether you’re a last minute packer or one that has their stuff organized, listed out and ready weeks before, this list will help.

Start with the overall agenda so you know EXACTLY what and where you’ll be.  Most conventions have different meetings or “tracks” based on title and/or overall success.  For example, top title earners normally have a few formal events while newer business owners typically don’t need formal attire but will need a cocktail type dress.  So check the agenda and check it twice.

My company’s annual convention has opening and closing ceremonies, general sessions, breakout sessions, and a few parties (based on title and rank). So I know I will need a couple dressier outfits, some professional casual stuff that is comfy but looks put together and at least one cocktail type/formal outfit for recognition time and parties.  Yours might look different so check your agenda to ensure you know EXACTLY what is necessary.  Last year, one of our leaders hosted an 80s prom type party … that definitely took some extra planning!  I wanted to have the PERFECT 80s attire.

I’m a big believers in being your authentic self and “coming as you are” … so make sure your attire reflects that. This doesn’t mean sloppy and unplanned. It means to be you and to put your best foot forward. If you’re really uncertain about where to start, think about the leader you aspire to be and imagine what would be in his or her suitcase.

You’re going to see a little bit of everything from uber formal to uber casual … the key is to be comfortable and to be true to you.

To put your best foot forward it will take a little effort but that is where I come in. I’m here to serve you. Remember there are TONS of picture opportunities too so think about what you want to see over and over and over again in photos. So ask yourself these two questions while you lay out your clothing items:

Will this outfit reflect who I am as a leader and my personal brand in photos?

When I meet my mentors, will I feel confident and put together in this outfit?

If the answer is YES, put those items in your suitcase. If the answer is NO, get back in that closet and try again!

A few items that might not be top of mind are snacks … trust me.  The days are long and food options can be limited so plan ahead and have a few snacks in your bag to get you thru the day. I also bring blazers, wraps or cardigans because the conference rooms are chilly. The air is usually cranked up. If you’re overly hungry or cold it impacts the ability to FOCUS so … take my advice and plan for both.

Your devices will also be working on overtime so bring back up batteries or battery chargers to ensure you have “juice” all day long. It goes without saying that this is a business trip so bring your business credit cards and track your receipts because most of the trip is considered a tax write off.

Last but not least, think about the photos you want and your social media plan for the week. The last thing you want to do is randomly post on social media. Not sure where to start or what to do … I’ve gotcha covered … CLICK HERE for your free download.
